Scratching

Scratching is when you use a beat or a sample and cut it into the track you are playing.

How to do it

First find out where on the record you want to start scratching from.

When you have found your place, start by moving your hand forwards then backwards then forwards again to create a scratch sound.

Then move the cross fader into the middle and back very quickly to create a ‘stabbing’ sound. Now combine the hand movement with the cross fader action and you are scratching!
