Anybody can do mixing – but you have to have a good ear for sound to be able to hear what you’re mixing. This is something most people can develop; in fact, you have to develop it as it doesn’t just come naturally. The more you practise and the more you listen, the better you become at it.
No, everyone’s on the same journey but they’re all coming with a particular interest in a different style of music and want to learn more and improve on their skills. Of course, if you love music it’s a lot easier. If it’s just work or a way of making money, there’s no feeling there, and you do need to feel it!
Listen to others work and try and emulate (copy) it. Try produce the same type of feeling/mix. If you’re listening to someone else’s track, you can hear where they’ve placed certain sounds. Try placing yours in the same place and see if you can create the same feel.Try to find out how it’s done and try to copy it. Only then will you be able to develop your own individual and personal mixes.
