Access to Music

BBC: A transcript of The Dancer’s Body
A programme aired on BBC in September 2002 featuring Deborah Bull. In the transcript she talks about what it is like to be a dancer and the demands that dance makes on your body and her own career as a dancer. Other programmes covered particular movements the body makes when dancing and what is involved (jumping, spinning and flexibility), there are also transcripts of dancers talking about dancers.
Birmingham Opera Company
Birmingham Opera Company is a new kind of company which, building on accumulated experience and success, plays an active role in the regeneration of its home city. Community involvement and involvement in the community is the basis of the company's policy. Local people have the chance to observe, comment and question the whole process of creating an opera production. Performed in English, the productions are specifically conceived to involve members of the community at every level, including performing alongside world class singers and musicians. Staging its productions away from conventional opera houses and theatres, the company offers opera at an affordable price without compromising quality.
Black Voices
From the oral tradition of Africa, right through to modern contemporary arrangements, Black Voices are a collective of powerful women's voices performing to international audiences. Black Voices also runs a strong education programme with participatory workshops and performances specifically designed to work across cultures, ages and gender.
Council For Dance Education And Training
CDET was established to promote excellence in dance education. It accredits dance courses, provides information about dance education and training and also offers advice and support to dancers and students. There are links and advice about careers, training and funding and a notice board with job opportunities and other advertisements.
DanceXchange
DanceXchange, based in Birmingham, has a good dance diary (which is searchable by dance company, date or venue). There are also some short dance films online for creative inspiration.
