What is The Last Mile?

The Last Mile aims to help diverse creatives who have the talent and skills to work in the creative industries but need support in taking the final steps from training to employment, by:

  • offering a range of materials to help and support creatives
  • showcasing a wide range of diverse talents
  • enabling employers to offer opportunities for employment and experience
  • providing a showroom for creatives to sell their work.
The Last Mile aims to put in place sustainable mechanisms to help previously excluded people to integrate or re-integrate into the labour market, increasing the numbers of women, disabled and black and minority ethnic professionals working in the industry and enabling employers to diversify their workforce.

Who is The Last Mile for?

The Last Mile bridges the gap between creatives and potential employers and buyers in a number of ways:

  • If you are a theatre company running an apprenticeship scheme, you can use it to increase the number of diverse applications to your programme.
  • If you are a budding make-up artist, you can use it to showcase your talents, skills and experience.
  • If you make furniture, you can use it to showcase and sell your designs, or to broaden your scope into commissions.
  • If you want to buy a unique product created by a skilled artist or craftsperson, you can browse the showcases and find something that catches your eye.

What can The Last Mile do for me?

The Last Mile recognises two things:

  • the challenge many creatives face in getting that first critical break
  • the obstacles faced by potential employers who want to recruit diversely.

If you are a creative, you can access case studies, online activities, support and advice to help you make the best of yourself as you work towards getting your first break.

If you need to find a creative person to fill a gap, you can advertise your opportunity on the site and browse the showcases to find people who fit the bill.

Don’t forget, many creatives on the site have work for sale – browse and buy!

The Last Mile web site has many different uses. How you use the site depends on who you are and what you are looking for on the site. No, you don’t have to pay to use The Last Mile. We want our support and services to be available for everyone, so all the advice, information and services on The Last Mile web site can be accessed free of charge.

Do I have to register?
You can browse the site without registering, but you need to register to access the showcases and opportunities, and registered users have access to more support and information. Have a look around the site and see what it can do for you – you’ll want to come back time and time again!
